I think you should make your longest training run closer to 23 miles with a nice 2-3 week taper up to race day. you are aiming to cycle 60-70 miles training for your 1/2IM so why not similar for the marathon. good luck by the way. I am doing vitruvian this year in september so almost 1/2IM (bike is only 85k)
Dave

Comment on This is why I hate Garmin!

Hi There,

Enjoyed reading your blog. I'm going to start training but I have no idea about training schedules. Where do I start? Can you post something about your current training schedule and your current schedule?
Thanks so much.
Slave to the rhythm!
Richie

Comment on Steelman Olympic Triathlon - Race report

Fantastic report, and congratulations!

Comment on This is why I hate Garmin!

Just come across your blog, now I see how to write them, I have been training from nothing to doing a few sprints now moving up to standard events ,so love reading about people who have gone on to at a higher level
cheers http://tummymustgo.wordpress.com/

Comment on This is why I hate Garmin!

Don't sweat the "slow run" Thomas. You know what you need to run to get faster in 2010n not Garmin!

I feel you on the juggling. I am a father of five and know how difficult it it, and how much you need to sacrifice for the love of your sport.

Happy Training,

Mark

http://tridadoffive.blogspot.com/

Comment on Steelman Olympic Triathlon - Race report

I gave up smoking and started tri training a few years ago as well.

I still ask myself the same questions as you "How come everyone else seems faster than me?"

It is a bit disappointing sometimes especially when you put so much effort in training and see so little result on the split times.

I think I'll concentrate more on racing against myself and not look at the others who are passing me on the bike as if I'm standing still.

Comment on Steelman Olympic Triathlon - Race report

Great reports on a great race - if you ever fancy the step to IM,then have a look at IMUK - I have an unofficial site you may wanna look at - www.energypics.co.uk

Comment on Wetsuit ban for the Steelman Olympic Triathlon this weekend!

Hey it sounds very interesting the temperature is fine to enjoy the race. VO2max and Wmax are the two frequently used measures of athletic endurance ability. The changes in body mass may likewise show changes in performance outcome. An efficient cyclist will use maximum oxygen available in the atmosphere and deliver maximum power. Simultaneously a measure of peak aerobic power (Wmax) is taken.

Comment on Steelman Olympic Triathlon - Race report

Nice race report! Too bad about the leg cramps on the bike. I think 56 min in a 10 is a great time...would be for me! I don't know of any races near me that are so many laps. Nice for spectators, but sounds boring for the athletes! Keep up the good work!

Comment on Steelman Olympic Triathlon - Race report

hey thomas, thanks for the race report; great to read :)

i keep hearing time + time again that you can't keep racing other people, and you have to race yourself --> so with that in mind a) you've done two Oly Tris in a matter of weeks! b) you've done two Oly Tris hands down! c) you haven't been racing all your life like a lot of these people!

i too am thinking i'll get 3hrs on my London Oly and to be honest, i know i'll probably feel as you do if i do get 3 hrs (secretly hoping for 2.45 - who isn't?) But you know i also think that starting with a 3hr Oly means it can only get better - which is a good thing!

keep your chin up because it's a killer achievement > ask the average person what they think of an Oly Tri and 3 hours or 2.45 doesn't mean anything to them - it's still a MASSIVE undertaking.

SoooOOoo congrats!
