Positive Psychology - Push it!
Last Wednesday when I was doing a brick training which was a bike ride of 26K followed by my traditional 3.8Km benchmark run. When I came off the bike I was determined to make the run a good hard run and to run as fast as I could in order to break the 19.5 minute barrier. After about 10 minutes my mind started playing up - Why are you doing this? Should you not walk that's so much easier? What's the purpose? Why push yourself through all this? Are you insane?
As if it was not enough, during my bike ride today, and after the long run, my legs were painful but only with a positive mind I was able to push harder and harder. I had Grace Jones playing in my iPod during the last few miles. Here are a few sentences where I was chanting upon, I was absolutely positively electrified and there was nobody stopping me from pushing my bike, I became a "Slave to my own Rhythm"! PS: I took this picture from here. This was probably exactly the picture of my brain when I went through all those moods. But the Positive Phsychology was the most powerful of all. But Positive Psychology was the most overwhelming one.
Those thoughts stayed in mind for about a minute at which point I ran next to Edgebarrow School and I noticed a sign posted "Positive Psychology". From that point onwards I started coming up with all positive answers to the questions which were raging through my mind and in almost no time I was charged up and was pushing myself harder than ever before. I finished the run in 19:23.
Today, again, when going through my long slow run I had music on. Exactly at the moment I was in suffering mode Mika started playing in my iPod with "Relax, take it easy". This song brought just the best out of me, where initially I was just pacing away but when hearing this song I started thinking positive and held my head and chest firmly up where only I could go faster with proud.
Build on up, dont break the chain,
Sparks will fly, when the whistle blows,
Never stop the action,
Keep it up, keep it up,
Work to the rhythm,
Live to the rhythm,
Love to the rhythm,
Slave to the rhythm,
Axe to wood, in ancient time,
Man machine, power line,
Fires burn, heart beats strong,
Sing out loud, the chain gang song,
Never stop the action,
Keep it up, keep it up,
Breath to the rhythm,
Dance to the rhythm,
Work to the rhythm,
Live to the rhythm,
Love to the rhythm,
Slave to the rhythm.
