Bananaman Humanrace Triathlon 2008 - Race expectations

This Sunday, 20th of July 2008, I will be participating in the Bananaman sprint Triathlon in Dorney Lake at Eton College rowing facility. The race is organized by HumanRace so that should all go smoothly if I may compare with the Windsor Triathlon.

This venue carries a special place in my heart because it was here where I saw for the first time a triathlon race live in action and I have been visualizing myself on this track for the last few months. This race was supposed to be my first Triathlon, but due to my fair share of injuries I had to cancel in May of this year.  But this weekend it looks that I will be racing. Furthermore I will be cheered on by friends and family members so I will have to perform well, no pressure . This venue is ideal for family members to cheer you on as they can see you swimming from close by, the run is on site and almost in front of them, the bike is 6 laps, so every 10 minutes I should be passing the same spot.

The distance is between a Sprint Triathlon and an Olympic distance. The official distance is 800m swim, 30K bike and 7.5k run. The race track is flat as a pancake and does not contain any hills and can be used to achieve a personal best. This is what I'm hoping for myself as well but the run of 7.5K will be a killer, no matter what race track. I still haven't managed to run this distance in training and the 5K of the Emberton County Park triathlon must have hurt me badly.  Last week when I ran in training I started to limp again. I will be seeing a specialist this Thursday.

Here are my expectations for this Sunday at the Bananaman:

  • Swim - 800m - 18 minutes
  • Bike   - 30k     - 55 minutes
  • Run   - 7.5k    - 42 minutes
  • Transition total: 3 minutes

Total time: 1h 58 minutes

I won't be dressing up in a Banana so you should recognize me, come and say hello if you see me or if you pass me. I will be racing in the last wave at 2:40pm.

Good luck to all who are participating!

Hi Thomas nice site. I am also doing the bananaman on Sunday in the same start wave as you. If I see you I will come and say hello. Look out for me I have a blue Bianchi bike. This is my 2nd tri, I did Blenheim last month and got hooked. I hope to finish in about 2hrs 10 as I think I will be a bit slower than you on the bike and about the same for swim and run. My training partner John is also doing it. Good luck and hope to see you.
